Tim McMahon “someone who knows Luca Donsic well” says about his LA Lakers plans

Luka Donsic’s unexpectedly eventful season is over.

Luka Doncic launched the 2024-25 campaign with the Dallas Mavericks before the shocked basketball deal.

Donsic was as stunned as anyone when MAVS decided to trade him for the LA Lakers at mid-season deadline.

The Slovenians were forced to be readjusted soon, leading the Lakers to a third seed finish in the Western Conference, but it all fell apart in the playoffs.

One outcome of the transaction was the Lakers’ disproportionate roster. This meant there was a shortage of teams in the first round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Luka Doncic is not eligible for a Supermax contract after Mavericks exchanged him.

Doncic technically became a free agent in June 2026, and in early August the Lakers are eligible to offer him an extension.

Speaking on Dan Patrick’s show, reporter Tim McMahon claims he is confident that Luka Donsic will commit his future to the Lakers.

“We’ll be shocked this summer without any extensions, and there are a lot of factors, how that will look.

“I don’t want to bother CBA Minttia or anything like that, but I didn’t talk to him directly about what I know about Luka. I’m not talking to people who know him.

“His heart was broken, but he’s completely committed to the Lakers, and his goal is now to win a championship with that franchise.”

A recent report from ESPN suggests that Luka Doncic will take some time to assess his future with La Lakers.

There are various contract options on the table for the team to offer him.

The report includes a four-year, $229 million extension or a three-year, $165 million extension with player options in 2028.

By the time the Lakers are able to offer Don Chic a contract in early August, the team’s free agency activities will almost be over, giving the Slovenians a better picture of the franchise’s plans for 2025-26 and beyond.

GM Rob Pelinka vowed to build a team around Doncic.
