Honda will not have one of its riders due to France’s MotoGP this weekend.
The Somkiat Chantra will need more time to recover from the arm pump surgery he underwent after his latest MotoGP round at Jerez.
An LCR Honda statement said: “Idemitsu Honda LCR rider Somkiat Chantra will not be taking part in the French Grand Prix as he continues to recover following ARM pump surgery on April 30th.
“After the post-surgery examination, Dr Xavier Mir, who performed the procedure, recommended that Somkiat be more time to regain full strength before returning to the competition.
“The team is fully supporting Somkiat’s recovery process and we look forward to getting him back on track soon.”
Chantra was forced to withdraw from Spain’s MotoGP due to pain 14 laps later and had surgery soon after.
The Thai rider has endured the difficult start of his rookie campaign and has not been able to score points in six rounds so far.
His teammate Johann Zarco is the oldest rider on the grid and is seeking promotion to the factory team in 2026.
Is Pedro Acosta suitable for the French motogp?
Chantra was the second MotoGP rider who needed arm pump surgery after Pedro Acosta and after the Spanish round.
The narrow corners of the Jerez track can often cause riders to have arm pump issues.
KTM confirmed on Tuesday:
“The final medical evaluation by MotoGP medical staff will be held on Thursday and will be decided to participate in the MotoGP in France.”
Arm pumps are officially known as compartment syndrome.
This is when physical stress reduces blood flow in the forearm and is a regular issue for MotoGP riders.
