Before returning to action later this summer, indisputable bantamweight champion Juliana Pena has revealed plans to win a trilogy rubber match with rival Amanda Nunes if he can defeat Kayla Harrison’s next strength in the UFC 316 showdown.
Two-time and incumbent bantamweight champion Pena is expected to jointly headline the promotion’s return to New Jersey in June, with Harrison, the winner of the previous two PFL (Professional Fighters League) tournaments, to win Harrison in their respective grudge matches.
Since winning her second crown last October, Washington native Juliana Pena recently made a fiercely competitive decision to then-champion Raquel Pennington in a warm pairing showdown in Salt Lake City.
And last month, former two-division champion Nunes confirmed that she will return to action later this year.
Juliana Pena talks about the battles of Amanda Nunez’s title trilogy this year
However, according to Pena, the Bahia native issued a strict ultimatum to win the trilogy. First, she must cross the convention in the UFC 316 title fight in “Garden State.”
“She (Amanda Nunez) told me, “It’s all up to you,” Juliana Pena told Ariel Helwani Non-crowned. “It’s all in your hands. And everything will be decided, everything will be decided by you. And what you do.” And so, she basically accepts you the trilogy – you’re pending to take care of your business on June 7th. And that’s exactly what I’m preparing for. ”
Having won a shocking upset with Nunes in 2021, Pena won the biggest upset victory in promotional history, surprising the astounding second round rear choke submission victory.
However, if the next summer rematches, Pena will be removed on multiple occasions with a one-sided decision loss when the pair’s titles are rerun.
