According to Football Insider, Liverpool is preparing to part ways with left-back Costas Tsimika during the summer transfer.
Despite the team’s recent contribution to success, including a Premier League title victory, the club is looking to refresh its defensive options.
Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool from Olympiacos in 2020, has been Andy Robertson’s trustworthy aide for the past five seasons.
However, due to Robertson’s weakness and the need for long-term planning, Liverpool decided that Tsimikas is not an ideal candidate to take on the main left-back role.
Liverpool makes Tsimikas available for transfers
The 28-year-old Greek International, who is still on a two-year contract, is expected to be available for transfers.
With Tsimikas likely to leave Anfield this summer, the Reds are planning to sign a new left back, with Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez already identified as the leading candidate for the position.
Football critic Ian Wright believes that Kerkes and Liverpool’s contract “probably finished.”
Greek defender has been successful at Anfield
Tsimikas’ tenure at Liverpool is characterized by notable moments, including a decisive penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final and an assist in Virgil Vandic’s winning goal in the 2024 EFL Cup final.
He has made 114 appearances for the club and has contributed to domestic and European campaigns.
Regarding his relationship with Mohamed Sarah, Timikas said:
“Mo is one of my best friends. He’s always helped me. We’re such a good friend and spend a lot of time here on the training ground. We have a lot of chats.”
The Reds will need to look for a new left back, as well as a new right back where Trent Alexander Arnold announced his decision to leave Merseyside club at the end of the season.
