Arsenal sports director Andrea Berta reportedly responded to a recent story about Real Madrid who wants to sign William Saliba.
Berta appears to be a bit surprised by recent speculation, as the gunners don’t want to risk losing such a key player.
According to L’Equipe, the story seems to have prompted Berta to begin contacting Saliba over a new contract at Emirates Stadium.
Saliba is a very important player for Arsenal and he is also good enough to influence top clubs like Real Madrid.
France International spoke publicly to suggest that he is looking at his future at Arsenal, but we need to wonder if he can quickly consider other options.
Arsenal needs a victory project to keep people like William Saliba
For Arsenal, despite the enormous advances under Mikel Arteta’s management, it is certainly a concern that they appear to be heading for another season without a trophy.
The AFC missed out on last season and the previous year’s Premier League titles slightly, but the term currently keeps its distance from the Liverpool champions and may even risk coming out of the top five.
Meanwhile, the Arsenal Trail are heading 1-0 to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the second leg of tonight’s Champions League semi-finals.
Saliba might view people like Real Madrid as more appealing if this proves to be another trophyless campaign in North London.
Real Madrid brings together the super team
Real Madrid may not have achieved a bit of a hit this season, but they signed Killian Mbappe on a free transfer last year, and are still closing out for free with Trent Alexander Arnold, according to BBC Sports and others.
If Los Blancos could sign a world-class centre-back like Saliba, they’ll definitely be in great shape for years to come.
Arsenal often lost star players to bigger clubs in the past, but Arteta and Berta will certainly recognize that they cannot repeat this now if they want to continue on the right track.
