ROMA – Iga Swiecsk bouncing off one of the worst losses of her career in a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 defeat by home player Elisabetta Cocchialet in the second round of the Italian Open on Thursday.

Swiatek said he was dealing with “personal things” when he was beaten 6-1, 6-1 by Cocogoff in the Madrid Open semi-finals last week.

Second place Swiatek is a three-time Roma champion, but has not reached the finals on this year’s tour. She has improved to 21-2 in Rome since 2021.

The Italian opening is the last big clay coat warm-up before the French opening, which begins on May 25th. Swiatek won four of five Grand Slam titles with Roland Garros.

Sweet then faces Daniel Collins or Elena Gabriella Loose, who later performed in Italico.
