Newcastle is promoting the Champions League

Whether Newcastle’s secure Champions League football or not, the 2024-25 season was always fondly remembered by fans, and ultimately earned a great honor after a 70-year meeting, but they are still in a strong position to seal off the top-five finish.

The magpie sits in fourth place. The two points are two points away from Nottingham Forest, and three Premier League matches will play in just three matches, but the rest of the fixtures are on the more difficult side, and now there are two direct rivals.

It may prove to be a difficult task, but if Hau’s side is qualified for the elite European competition, they should be able to attract some top players in the summer.

According to a report from Spain, Newcastle is also interested in the new midfielder, submitting a bid of 25 million euros (£21 million) to Girona Maestro Jangel Herrera.

Atletico Madrid and top five rival Nottingham Forest are also interested in signing Herrera this summer, but Magpies have now taken a solid step to secure his signature and have made a strong offer to the table.

Hau believes the Venezuelan will fit perfectly on his side, and the manager is looking to introduce some additional qualities into the already impressive midfield, with the likes of Bruno Guimares and Sandro Tonari gaining interest for performances this season.

Herrera could be a “incredible” signature for Newcastle

While Howe doesn’t lack the top quality midfield options, the 27-year-old is a well-balanced midfielder and there are clear indications that he can play a key role for Magpies in his potential Champions League campaign next season.

The central midfielder caught his eye in front of Girona’s goals this semester, registering four goals and three assists in La Liga, including his famous efforts against Celta Vigo in September.

Not only that, the former New York City FC man was impressed with his tackling ability early in his career, but also caught his eye due to his pass success rate in the final third of his 2023-24 campaign.

With the praise of journalist Zach Lowy as “an incredible player,” it is a promising development that Newcastle has now taken a concrete approach.
