Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, acknowledges that Formula 1 will be a major challenge for the new Cadillac team, but says he aims to exceed expectations due to the affinity that many fans have for the brand.
Cadillac will join the grid in 2026 after a plucked induction process that saw the original Andretti entry evolve with support from General Motors. Towriss says that the main driver behind the project from the start is the heightened expectations of providing fans with a new team to root new teams.
“Just seeing what a new Formula 1 team can do (it should excite fans),” Touris told SiriusXM. “I think this is the time to really showcase American innovation, American ingenuity in cars, along with GM’s involvement. What’s going on in Detroit, what’s going on there, what’s going to be built there, and Indianapolis, Charlotte…
“From that point of view, this is a team where fans of the team can really fall behind. Everybody I’ve spoken about has a Cadillac story in some way. You’re attached to their grandfather, father, mother, car – brand.
“And they say, ‘I’m a Formula 1 fan and now I’m a Cadillac Formula 1 fan.’ We don’t want to disappoint those fans, so all our efforts are trying to make a mistake.
The original entry was approved by the FIA, but was rejected by F1 in 2025 or 2026 at the beginning of last year, stating that commercial rights holders are more open to accepting new teams in 2028.
“It was extremely difficult to get past the line,” admits Touris. “But from where we stand today, I think our projects, our efforts, our Cadillac Formula 1 team would be better experienced.
“Formula 1, it shouldn’t be easy. This is the pinnacle of motorsports. And trust me, they didn’t make it easy. Yeah, it was frustrating. It was like a moving goal post. But we did it.
“But we have now been very welcome in Formula 1. The support from the FIA, the welcome from the other teams was fantastic.
A gorgeous party was seen in South Beach on Saturday night in Miami, where Cadillac unveiled the first brand image of the new team. Touris says the journey to the 2026 grid will be filled with major milestones to come.

“It’s incredible to think about it. I’m sure next year will be a little busy and maybe a little more nervous, but that’s why the thing we wanted to come out and do the logo we had was to really set the stage and show people what Cadillac Formula 1 is doing.
“I think a lot of people know that Cadillac is on the rise, but what does that mean? What does it look like? How does it feel? That’s a lot of work that’s become that? And (Miami) told us it was really its launch and what it would look like.
“I’m sure some people wanted to see the driver announcement, but some people wanted to see the colouring announcement, but “Hey, we’re not going to send everything in a day!”
“There is a lot of accumulation between Now and Melbourne in 2026, so there is more to come.
“But it was great to show what we can expect from the attitude, look and feel and Cadillac Formula 1. GM Brass was all displayed, TWG Global Brass appeared, fans, influencers, media, it was a great event. We were very excited.”
