Sandmanthe winner of the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby is Preakness 2025 Next Saturday at Pimlico.
Preakness’s official X account made an announcement on Sandman’s plans on Saturday. Tapit’s grey son, Sandman, comes out from his 7th place finish last Saturday as his second betting option in the Kentucky Derby.

Sandman is trained by Mark Cass, who previously won Preakness once. That victory came in 2019 with Will’s war that bouncing off after having his seventh problem in the Kentucky Derby. War of Will is the latest horse to win Preakness after starting in the Kentucky Derby.
In addition to Sandman, the American promise will also return from the Kentucky Derby and race at Preakness. The American Promise finished 16th in the Kentucky Derby for trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who won his seventh Preakness in 2024 with Seize the Grey. JournalismIt’s also possible for trainer Michael McCarthy to be second in the Kentucky Derby favourite.
Preakness will be drawn on Monday.
