ROMA – Defending champion Alexander Zverev made his way forward at the Italian Open on Sunday, beating Lithuanian qualifier Vilius Gaubas in straight sets.
No. 2 rank Zverev wins 6-4, 6-0 in the third round match in Rome, then plays Arthur Phil from France.
Phil defeated Stefanos Zitzpass 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Carlos Alcaraz overcomes Laslo Dajere 7-6 (2), 6-2, then faces Karen Khachanov.
In a women’s draw, top-ranked Arena Sabalenka moved forward from a set with Sofia Kenin.
Kenin, the No. 31 seed American, won the first set of 6-3, but Sabalenka retreated to score the next two sets with the same score.
US Open Champion Sabalenka will play Ukrainian Malta Koschuk in the next round.
Coco Gouf won in straight sets against Magda Lynette 7-5, 6-3.
Former US Open Champion Emma Raducanu faced Veronica Kudermetova, but bounced the match 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
Gauff and Raducanu will meet in the next round.
