The appointment of the next manager at Ibrox of the Glasgow Rangers is the most important decision in the club’s recent history.
Since the Rangers won the league title 55 in the 2020/21 season, GERS has gone from coach to coach, without any actual identity and won two trophies in the process.
With the 49ers enterprise reportedly approaching completion, anyone who comes to manage with Ibrox must be someone who can end the control of their old company rivals.
Of course, this is easier than that. This is easy, especially considering the magnitude of the challenges facing the next manager. Can you build a team during one summer that could change the future of Light Blues?
It’s difficult, but there’s no doubt that you can do that. Martin O’Neill arrived at the club in the summer of 2000 and signed players such as Chris Sutton, Neil Lennon and Alan Thompson.
A year later, he led the club to a high-pitched success and reinvigorated the Parkhead side within one transfer window.
When I grabbed the reins ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Ange Postecoglou did something similar 20 years ago, 20 years ago.
Rangers will need to bring their own post-coglu this summer
In the summer of 2021, Stephen Gerrard was about to kick on from the club’s success in premier title and turn it into the dominant Scottish squad.
Anyway, it means that light blues didn’t make much progress on the field anyway.
Post-Coglu was considered a dangerous appointment by Celtic despite his success in Japan in his previous role. Signatures such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Jota and others provided a stepping stone to ultimately overtake their rivals, but it took several months to gel.
The following year they got another high note, and it was clear that the Australian manager had built something special in just two years.
His theatrical style ensured that the Celtics had an identity, and they regularly scored the best of GERS during this period, losing to the Ibrox side just three times under the current Spurs manager.
Perhaps this is the direction the Rangers should head this summer? Bring people with a unique style of play that will soothe supporters and achieve positive results.
Therefore, it is reported that the final candidate was selected by a club that allows the next manager.
Rangers look for a new manager
Telegraph’s Mike McGrath recently reported that the name quartet has been considered in the role of vacant management. Despite the board wanting to go in a new direction, Gerrard is “considered” for his work. Elsewhere, Rob Edwards, Gary O’Neill and Russell Martin are three other names mentioned in the report.
McGrath said he “has no clear favorites,” and there are also several foreign coaches on his current long list.
With news that the athletic club was knocked out of the Europa League in the semi-final stage, the Rangers now enter the second round of the Champions League with their first leg on July 22nd or 23rd.
This indicates that the club needs to make decisions to new managers as soon as possible, especially when competitive equipment begins soon after the preseason.
With so many names linked or on the list of candidates, can the club bring their own Anges by appointing Martin to the role of first-team manager?
Why Rangers Should Hire Russell Martin?
Martin’s name may not stand out when it comes to several other potential candidates, including Marco Rose and Gerrard, but his offensive style of play could be key to making him the role.
In fact, respected analyst John Walker has regularly lobbyed Martin to secure work before next season, and has praised him many times recently.
Southampton statistics for the championship under Russell Martin | |
---|---|
the goal | 87 |
Game-by-game goals | 1.9 |
Owning the ball | 66% |
Big opportunities for each game | 2.8 |

Walker said Martin would “improve young players” while also promoting “exciting offensive football” where the Rangers can start thriving in domestic competition once again.
Even greater praise came from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who I mentioned earlier this season:
Certainly, Southampton may have struggled in the Premier League under Scott, but it was incredible in the second tier.
The Saints ranked in the top three of all championship clubs, creating opportunities, shots in goal, big chances missed, while completing the second longest long pass in the division.
This last stat is particularly important. His team loves to build plays and focus on weaknesses in opposition defense. Sometimes, under Philip Clement, the back four regularly punted the pitch for things like Cyriel Dessers To Chase, a tactic the coaches didn’t like at all.
Judging from this, Martin has an approach that matches the direction the Rangers want to enter.
It works on a 4-3-3 system, which could work incredible ways in the future for Nicholaskin, Mohamed Diomande, Hamzai Gamane and others.
He has won nothing in his coaching career so far, but his playing style has been revealed in spells with Southampton, Swansea and MK Don. That’s certainly true.
Manager Focus
Who is the best coach on the land? Football FanCust’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal everything.
But would the board and the new owner want to appoint him? Especially considering his lack of success. Or will they gamble this summer?
Gambling is probably not a bad idea as things have disappeared lately. He could become the club’s very own Ange.
