BCCI completes new test captain as Rohit Sharma retires

Rohit Sharma recently announced via Instagram that he has retired from Test cricket and will not be available for his choice for the India Tour of England 2025.

His retirement opened the door for the appointment of a new Test Captain, with Shubman Gill, Jaspuri Bumra, KL Laal and Rishabh Pants among the names discussed for his role.

Schubman Gill appears to be the frontliner to take over the Indian team’s Test Captain, with star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pants likely to serve as his aide.

Jaspuri Bumra, who was representing Test Cricket Rohit Sharma, no longer considers his leadership role for his fitness issues and workload management.

The same happened with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who previously served as vice-captain under Rohit Sharma in Whiteball Cricket, but when it was time to name the new T20I captain, BCCI chose Suryakumar Yadav over Pandya.

He’s the player that every team misses – Michael Clark

In a report suggesting the appointment of Shubman Gill as New India’s test captain, Michael Clark came up with a major warning to the BCCI.

Michael Clark said India misses the service of Rohit Sharma, especially as captain in Test cricket. Because he is a tactical genius.

The former Australian skipper added that trading Rohit is extremely difficult for any player and the current Indian ODI captain reads the game very well.

“He’s a player that every team misses,” said Clarke, cited by Revsportz. “Tactically, he would be very difficult to trade as a captain. He read the game very well.”

If Kuldeep plays, I honestly believe he can make a difference – Michael Clark

Prior to India’s tour of England, Rohit retired, and Virat Kohli made the decision to retire. This means that India will have a rather inexperienced mid-term when faced with three lions.

But that’s not the only issue as Mohammed Shami’s shape and fitness are a major concern and reportedly he may not be on a flight to the UK. Mohammed Siraj also failed to impress the BCCI selectors and team management.

Meanwhile, Michael Clark said in the bowling division that Kuldeep Yadav will become the difference maker of the five-match Test series with the UK, and he will become India’s trump card. He said:

“I honestly believe that if Kuldeeep plays, he can be the difference between the two teams. He bowls it well.”
