Man City agrees to personal terms with younger targets

Regardless of what happens in Saturday’s FA Cup final, it’s been a very disappointing season for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

The Cityzens are currently scrapping it to secure a place to take part in Champions League football from the top five for the upcoming season, but they have already missed the Premier League title.

They were also knocked out of the Champions League in the playoff round and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the League Cup. This shows just how disappointed the campaign has been for the club.

Despite elling Haaland, the fight continued with already-related Southampton, who scored 11 points towards the game in a 0-0 draw last weekend.

Manchester City did not create a single “big opportunity” in the game. Ricor Luis didn’t create opportunities in 76 minutes on the pitch at right back, so there’s one area in the full-back position to improve his creativity.

The Cityzens Academy alumni are tidy and reliable as he completed 91% of his attempted passes in the Premier League this season, but doesn’t offer many threats on the top end of the pitch.

Guardiola can’t look to Lewis to make anything empty by bombing the sides and making great deliveries.

The 20-year-old defender has played 28 games this season without creating “big chances” in the Premier League.

Lewis also scored one goal and missed two “big chances” on 28 outings on top flights.

As you can see in the table above, England International is not good at making things happen in the last third.

So Manchester City should aim to replace him as the usual starter for the transfer window for the upcoming summer.

Manchester City is locked up in Serie A defenders

According to a French report, Manchester City is looking at a deal to sign Nicolo Savona from Italian giant Juventus ahead of its 2025/26 campaign.

The reporter claims that the Premier League giants have verbally agreed to personal terms with the 22-year-old fullback as they are trying to bolster their options this summer.

Aouna adds that terms of the contract have already been debated between the club and the players, and that personal terms are now agreed, and that Savona is eager to move to Etihad.

However, journalists have not revealed how much demand Juventus is looking for from the defender, or how many cities will pay him to get a contract in the coming weeks or months.

But he also said that Flamengo defenders Wesley Franca and Newcastle United fullback Tino Libramento, formerly Chelsea’s Tino Libramento, is also an option to come right back for the city during the summer transfer.

This suggests that Savona is just one of many targets, and that despite the fact that it appears to be approaching a deal to sign a right-back after agreeing to personal terms with him, there is no guarantee that they have decided to go with him more than the other targets.

Why Manchester City should sign Nicolo Savona

The Italian dynamo could be a major upgrade for Rico Luis, so if they decide to swoop for his services it could be a great addition to the team.

First of all, Savona has the technical quality and reliability of the ball on the ball to play for Guardiola’s team, so why are they looking at him as a target? This is evidenced by Juventus’s 91% pass completion rate in Serie A this season.

The 22-year-old star can play as a centre-back in the back three or as a right-back or right-wing-back in the four or three back systems, but rarely throws the ball over a pass.

However, Savona is technically skilled and offers more quality as an offensive threat than Lewis, who can trust the ball, but is currently on Manchester City right back.

As you can see in the table above, the Juventus defender was more effective as a scorer, creator and dribbler at the league level this season despite taking 11 fewer touches per game compared to the English fullback.

These statistics suggest that Savona, dubbed “funny” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, can further improve his output as part of the Manchester City team, which can take more touches on the ball.

Stepping into advanced positions to face Udinese in the clip above, Savona provided six assists in Juventus’ 41 games at the U19 level and five assists in 61 matches for the next generation side.

Therefore, his form for young and senior level old ladies suggests that he could arrive at Etihad as an upgrade for Rico Lewis, who has not provided enough quality with the ball in the Premier League this season.

It is now up to the club to sign a contract with Juventus this summer to bring Italian talent to the UK.
