Has Beral Muhammad made a costly mistake?
In the post-UFC 315 edition of “Mmarcade Podcast,” Robert Whitaker shared his belief that Beral Muhammad made a major mistake in trying to strike with Jack Della Madalena for a long time (via Mmajunkie).
“I was hoping for more takedowns,” Whittaker said. “They were clean every time when he mixed up by taking Jack to him and hitting him to mix it into his shot. I think his only two takedowns were what pulled Jack out of the open mat. Jack was to accept a dogfight and make the Beral pay for every move forward.
Muhammad had plans to defeat Maddarena before going up to middleweight and face some more challengers, but he will likely see his teammates compete for double-champ status. UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev appears to be in a major position to challenge Maddalena for the welterweight award.
As for Muhammad, he must return to the drawings to stay in the 170 pound title hunt.
