Journalism, who rode 2021-trained Preakness winners Michael McCarthy and Umberto Rispoli, is part of a 6:4-1 record with victory at Los Aramitos Futurity (G2), San Felipe (G2) and the Santa Anita Derby (G1). He earns $1,638,880 with owners Eclipse Thorrbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm, Breader Don Alberto Stable, Robert Lapenta, Elayne Stables 5, Coolmore Group Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

Sandman, who finished 18th to 18th in the Derby, won the Arkansas Derby (G1) on March 29th. DJ Stable, St. The $1.2 million Grey Colt by Tapit, owned by EliasStable, West Point Sorlarbreds and CJ Stables, is trained by the 2019 Preakness Victor Mark Casse. John Belazuquez, who rode National Treasure in the Pimlico winners’ circle two years ago, replaces Jose Ortiz of the Irons. Sandman has made $1,254,595.
The Thames, which concluded their rally at Bluegrass (G1) on April 8th, was taken from a derby consideration to focus on the race. Trained by Todd Pleacher, who is 0-0 for Preakness, he was placed in March in the second closest position in the sovereignty of the Youth Fountain (G2). Winstar Farm, CHC, Pantofel Stable and Wachtel Stable Stable Own River Thames won their debuts and allowances on their four-race resumes. Irad Ortiz Jr. will be riding Maclean’s music colt twice in a row.
Clever again won both the two-turn races, most recently on March 30th. Owned by Winshel Thoroughbred, the American Faroar Colt and Coolmore are trained by Steve Asmussen, the 2007 and 2009 Preakness winner. He is again piloted by Jose Ortiz, who has both been on the clever victory again.
Goal-oriented painted the rail post and made his stakes debut with the third start of Bob Baffert, who holds a record in preakness training with eight wins. Not Not Colt is 2-2, including a sloppy 1/16 mile allowance score for the Derby Undercard. Jockey Flavienplatt, who won the 2021 Preakness, remains on the challenge. Goal orientation effectively replaces the injured Rodriguez with owners SF Racing, Starlight Race, Madaket Stable, Stone Street Stable, Diane Bashaw, Decisive Stable, Batmasterson, Tom Ryan, Waves Edge Capital and Catherine Donovan. Baffert got a prequel from Post 1. He did so in 2015 with American Pharaohs and in 2023 with treasures from around the country.
Heart of Honor has arrived from the Middle East for his first start since finishing on April 5 at the UAE Derby (G2). He qualified for the Kentucky Derby, but owners Jim and Clear Rimited and UK-based trainer Jamie Osborne decided to wait for Preakness. Colt by Honor AP has two victories in the one-mile allowance race at Meydan. The trainer’s daughter, Saffie Osborne, will be riding the Heart of Honor for the third time.
The American promise comes back from 89-year-old D. Wayne Lucas (89)’s 16th place derby finish. The $750,000 Justify Colt, owned by BC Stables, races for the 11th time in his career, in the Virginia Derby victory on March 15th. Nick Juarez continues on board.
After only three races, Gosgar recently won the stakes debut of trainer Brendan Walsh at Lexington (G3). Harvey Clarke’s homebread colt by Nyquist finished second in his six-furlong debut on December 14th. The Gosgar is the first ride by Luis Saes.
Maryland local hope, Pay Billy won four of his last five races. He qualified for Preakness via the winning and losing Federico Tesio Stakes, which went 1 1/8 miles at Laurel Park on April 19th. The Thisbable Colt, owned by Nate Nelson’s RTKN Racing, won a private requirement at Laurel on March 22nd. Trainer Michael Gorham has been riding Billy for six consecutive times by Raul Mena.
Wet weeks in Baltimore are predicted. The National Weather Service said there is a chance of 60% showers on Saturday. The area is 86 degrees under a partially sunny skies.
