John McGuinness of the 2025 Road Race Competition: “That’s difficult.”

23-time Man TT winner John McGuinness admits he was “not the greatest Northwest 200 rider ever,” but he still managed to draw positive conclusions from the 2025 edition of the event.

McGuinness ran solidly in the top 10 in both the Superstock and Superbike classes in the Northwest 200. This is an event where you feel the combination of some of the best road race riders and top British short circuit racers.

“I’ve always loved racing here, but I wasn’t the largest northwest 200 rider in the world,” McGuinness said.

“We have British superbike riders, we have the best road race riders in the world, and it’s hard to be there.

McGuinness added that he is pleased to finish all the races he started with on what is a tough circuit for bikes.

“For me, finishing all five races I started was a huge positive. Many riders weren’t in control this weekend,” he said.

“Being sixth or seventh in this crowd is not a disappointment at all, it’s all gaining momentum towards TT.

“It makes my bike feel better and I’m perfect for it. I didn’t feel like my strength was fading. TT is different to gravy, but being in the northwest is always a joy.”

McGuinness also paid tribute to his teammate, Dean Harrison. Dean Harrison had been on the podium five times from seven races he competed in, but had yet to score 200 First West wins.

“I enjoy every session. The bike never missed a beat and a big cry to my teammate (Dean Harrison),” he said.

“He didn’t win his first 200 Northwest wins, but it wasn’t because of a desire to try it.”
