Leeds leads the race and signs “outstanding” PL star

7 Min Read

Leeds United won the championship title with a 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season earlier this month, and are now looking forward to the Premier League season.

White scored 100 points to become the second tier champion, but that doesn’t mean they’ll easily find a transition to top flight.

There are already questions about some of the stars who led Leeds to the title, as Football Insider reported earlier this month that the club wasn’t planning on building offensive around Joel Pillow.

The outlet claimed there were behind the scenes questions about whether Daniel Fark could step up to the Premier League as the main number nine for the upcoming season.

That’s despite the fact that the left-footed striker won the golden boots in the championship, slightly beating Josh Sargent and Boluja Sainz from Norwich to the trophy.

Why Leeds may question Joel Pillow

However, the Premier League is such a fierce league that Leeds may question the pillow due to the bay of athletic ability needed between the two divisions.

White people need center forwards to be mobile or strong to escape or restrain the opposition centrebacks to maintain ownership of their team.

It’s safe to say that Piroe is not the fastest center in the center, or that he uses his pace to kill the defender. His game centers around being in the right place at the right time to use his deadly left foot.

But Leeds needs more in the Premier League. Because due to the nature of the season they are likely to face, many deep defenses likely require them to either extend their defense or to extend the ball.

As you can see at the table above, Pillow is unlikely to hold the ball effectively in the Premier League, as it felt too easy for the Championship defender to work on him with dribbling and beat him with duels in the ground and air.

This explains why there are some behind the scenes doubts about his suitability for relegation scraps on top flights, as he appears to have none of the physical attributes he needs.

With that in mind, Leeds reportedly is looking at a contract with a striker who has already proven they can compete in the Premier League.

Leeds leads the race signing Premier League striker

Leeds United are leading the race to sign Calm Wilson, who has been reflected in Newcastle United’s center over the upcoming summer transfer period, according to Talksport.

The report claims that the whites are former “front runners” to land the English International, but no other team has been named to compete to sign the Marksmen.

Talksport adds that Newcastle has the option to extend his English forward contract to another year as it is expected to expire this summer, but he would be willing to allow a free transfer if he could find a club and play regular football.

This means Leeds, and other interested clubs, can make bargain deals for experienced senreforwards by signing a free transfer ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Why should Leeds sign Callum Wilson?

Farke could potentially come as a major upgrade with Piroe, so if the opportunity arises in the coming weeks, you’ll have to snap Magpies Marksman with a free transfer.

While there are doubts about the Dutch suitability for the Premier League ahead of next season, Wilson has already proven over the years that he can be an excellent option at that level.

As you can see in the clip above, the Newcastle star scored an extraordinary distance of 18 goals in the Premier League in the 2022/23 campaign.

He found himself this season on a pecking order behind Alexander Isaac. This is no shame given that the Swedish marksman scored 23 Premier League goals, but he has excellent goal-to-start ratios throughout his career on top flights.

As you can see in the table above, experienced forwards tend to score on top flights as managers get off to the start, as proven throughout their time at Bournemouth and Newcastle.

This means that Wilson, once called “outstanding” by Eddie Howe, has come as a proven Premier League scorer who can provide a reliable presence at the top of the pitch that the pillow cannot provide.

The above clip, although many years ago, shows perfectly the pace, quality and strength the British bring to the Leeds team. These attributes allowed him to thrive at the top table for many years.

Therefore, Fark must push the board to seal Newcastle’s forward deal as he has record and physical attributes as a major upgrade to the pillow to strengthen the club’s hopes of avoiding immediate relegation to the championship.
