Despite the struggles this season, the Wolverhampton Wanderers have been pretty consistent in front of goal. They currently sit in the middle of the puck when it comes to goals scoring in the Premier League, with 51 strikes of over seven clubs.
According to Postordat, the old gold is very much at achieving the tally of the expected targets for this fiscal year.
The metric now means that Vitor Pereira’s side is 42.83 xg. In other words, they score 8.17 goals more than they should have been. Also, with Premier League clubs and some distance, it is the biggest achievement of the expected goals this season.
If there’s one person who helped them perform so much, it’s definitely a cunha in mathematics.
Cunha’s form this season and his wolf’s future
It was another incredible campaign for the old gold talisman cunha. Their No. 10 has been sensational for the second year in a row, keeping them in the Premier League and dragging the club through tough times on the Christmas pitch.
The 25-year-old Brazilian Olympic gold medalist has managed six assists with 15 goals in 31 Premier League matches this season. His 17 goals in all competitions are the most at the club, and Jorgenstrandlersen is the only other player with double numbers.
He announced several outstanding performances a few weeks ago, including one goal and two assists against Leicester City. But perhaps his most important was his goals and assists over Manchester United in December, a 2-0 victory at Molineux.
But Old Gold Forward, who has become a star on Molineux for the past two seasons, may not be able to call himself a wolf player.
A few days ago, Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United “continued discussions” to sign him this summer.
Cunha doesn’t seem to remain a wolf beyond this season, so they need to replace his goal. They’ve been linking with people who can do just that lately.
The ideal Cunha alternative for wolves
If Cunha loves Molinuex, who appears to be at this stage, the shocking moves of Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sollos, who previously played in Crystal Palace’s Premier League, can be placed on the wolf card.
The catch-offside reported earlier this week that he is “inves interest from the Premier League”, with Wolves, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa all connected to the move. The prices are not clear at this stage, but he could be roughly the same number as the Spaniard costs £27 million last season.
If you’re looking for someone to help old money forget to lose Cunha, Sorloth might be that guy.
He excelled for Atleti in 2024/25, scoring 17 goals and earning two assists in 32 appearances. Earlier in the season, Dougie Critchley described him as “sensational,” and it’s easy to see why.
The Norwegian recently made the headline by scoring four incredible goals in 30 minutes in Atleti’s 4-0 La Liga victory over Real Sociedad. Just 11 minutes later, he already had a hat-trick in one of the most eye-catching performances of the season.
That’s why Sorloth is the perfect man to step into Cunha’s shoes. There are statistics via FBREF. This suggests that he can take on the mantle of acquiring a consistent goal of old gold.
For example, he averages 1.09 goals and 0.55 goals per shot on targets per 90 minutes. In comparison, CUNHA averages 0.54 and 0.37 goals per shot on targets in each game.

Previously, references have been made to the wolves’ overachievement of the expected goal, but that certainly stands out for Sollos. He has over-achieved his expected goals for each game this season, indicating that he can maintain such a record.
There is no doubt about that, Cunha would be a huge loss for the old gold. But replacing him with a clinical player like Sollos who can maintain such an impressive goalscoring rate is a great business.
