Robert Schwartzman claimed an unexpected pole position at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.
A dramatic day began when Scott McLaughlin actually crashed a lot and removed him from qualifying.
Two Team Penske cars then failed technical inspections during the highway 12.
As a result, McLaughlin will start the Indy 500 on the 10th, with Josef New Garden in 11th and Willpower 12.
IndyCar Championship Leader Alex Palou must settle for P6 on the Indy 500 starting grid.
Sato thought he would pinch the pole position until Shwartzman framed the speed.
