Merab Dvalishvili has received some amazing comments from Sean O’Malley’s head coach.

It is no secret that there is some gamemanship between the teams of Dvalishvili and O’Malley. That being said, there is mutual respect on both sides. Dvalishvili defeated O’Malley to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion in September 2024. O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch recently said the light inside a Las Vegas sphere missed most of the fighters.

Some believe Welch is trolling in his comments, but he actually praises Dvalishvili.

In an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Tim Welch was asked if he thought Merab Dvalishvili should be considered the greatest bantamweight ever. Head coach Sean O’Malley disagreed.

“I really don’t know how to argue that Merab isn’t the best now,” Welch said. “Look at his records. Have you ever had a bantamweight who hit a lot of champions in a row?

Dvalishvili and O’Malley clash again in the main event of UFC 316 in Newark. The event will be held on June 7th. “The Machine” is looking for his second successful title defense. He defeated Umar Nurmagomedov in January with a unanimous decision as a co-headliner for UFC 311.

As for O’Malley, he has not taken action since suffering from the loss of dvalishvili. “Sugar” had recovered after undergoing surgery on a lip torn to his left hip. O’Malley claims he has made a major change in his lifestyle to focus on recapturing UFC Gold. He has significantly reduced his social media activities. This was a major part of his brand.
