Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has linked his move away from the club at the end of the season, and Liverpool is one of the clubs eager to him.
According to football insider Mick Brown, they could face competition between Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid for the 21-year-old midfielder.
“There is no doubt about the quality of Adam Wharton, and there is no concern there,” he told Football Insider.
“On the other side of things, he has his ability to cover the ground, and he seems to me like a short garden in terms of covering the ground.
“So that’s going to be a concern for Liverpool and Man City and others.
“From what I’ve heard, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have seen him.
“The focus is on whether you can play and manipulate the ball. That’s where Wharton thrives.”
Liverpool can use Adam Wharton
It’s no secret that Liverpool needs a quality defensive midfielder, and the Crystal Palace star could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition. Wharton protects Liverpool four times, allowing him to control the tempo of the game from deep.
The 21-year-old is likely to improve even further with his coaching and experience, and Wharton can develop into a key player for Liverpool if he can get the deal done.
The opportunity to join a big club can seduce young midfielders. Wharton is also linked to Manchester City.
Real Madrid and Barcelona Keen
Real Madrid and Barcelona could be an exciting opportunity for players as well. Real Madrid needs more depth in the middle of the park. England International could be a future investment for them.
As for Barcelona, they have won league titles this season and are hoping to win the Champions League next season. They need more quality on the side, and the 21-year-old helps them dominate the game more often.
It would be interesting to see where he ends. He should try to join a club that will have ample first team opportunities.
