Paddy Pimblett outlines the path to UFC lightweight titles

Pinblet has long beef from Toplia. So he hopes in part that the former featherweight champion will beat Oliveira in June.

However, Pinblet also recognizes that he will likely need to fight at least one more round before fighting for the belt. At that event, he would like to battle former interim champion Justin Geche next. Specifically, Abu Dhabi in October this year.

If he wins that fight, he wants to fight for a lightweight title in Miami next April if he is sure he will.

“If Ilia wins the belt, it’s probably good for me because he probably called me,” Pinblet told TNT Sports (transcripted by MMA Mania). “Then I could just fight him. I might have to fight Geshe, but I would fight Toplia.

“I don’t know if I want to win (at UFC 317),” Pinblett added. “I’m a Charles fan so I think I’d like to win over Charles, but if Ilia wins it would probably be good for my career, as it’s likely to be his first title defense.

“Abu Dhabi, October, that pay-per-view,” he concluded. “That’s when I want to fight, that’s when I’m pointing, and after what I did to Chandler, I think I’ve finished Justin Gesche.
