Rigney Racing’s quick 4-year-old filly Two Sharp Her seasonal debut on Monday in Grade 3 is set at $250,000 The colour of victory Churchill Downs and trainer Phil Bauer are confident in her preparation.
“She is a very talented filly and we look forward to bringing her back to the race,” Bauer said. “Monday is a tough place, but she trains a lot in the mornings so I think she got the perfect draw.”
The two Sharp, the dominant 5 3/4 winners of the Chillukki Stakes (G3), which will close the three-year-old campaign on November 23, will break from an external post in a field of mares with nine stuffing along with junior Alvarado in the saddle.
The two Sharp will enter the 6 furlong race with five published workouts, including a half-mile bullet on April 27th at 46.0 seconds and a 6 furlong drill on May 11th.
She won an 8-5 option on the morning line behind Cicero Farms Hope Road (7-5), who finished second for Copion at Derby City Dessaf (G1) on the Kentucky Derby day.
“It’s a good race and this is a really nice filly,” said Florent Gelx, who is taking the first mount on Hope Road. “Copion has proven himself to be the top of the division, but Hope Road is doing well against her in the final three starts.”
The 9th Race Anniversary Program on Monday begins at 12:45pm EDT. The 6 Furlong victory colour will be Race 8 at 4:22pm.
