Team India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar has revealed the actual reasons to appoint young batsman Shubman Gill as the new Test Captain in the 5-match Test series against England. Agarkal also said that Gill might struggle in his first mission as an Indian skipper in the UK’s challenging situation.

BCCI appointed Shubmangill as India’s new Test Captain on Saturday, May 24th. The 25-year-old took over from Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7th.

Speaking at the press conference, Ajit Agarkar said the appointment of Shubman Gill as Test Captain is a long-term investment, not just for his upcoming tour of England. He said Gill has shown growth over the past two years.

“You haven’t chosen a captain on the 1-2 tour. I want to invest in something that will help us in the future. We’ve seen some progress in him over the past two years. It’s definitely going to be difficult to play a five-match series in the UK.
