Arsenal continues to be linked to the moves of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, facing competition between Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
According to football insider Pete O’Rourke, players will cost £21 million, and it will be interesting to see which of the three clubs can make the deal.
Aston Villa has strong connections in Spanish football due to the presence of Monki and Unai Emery in the club. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to win the race for his signature. Emiliano Martinez has linked to travelling from the club and needs to replace him. A LA La Liga goalkeeper could be an ideal acquisition.
Aston Villa Wants to Martinez’s Alternative
O’Rourke said: “Villa is going to replace Martinez with a lot of goalkeepers and he’s going to leave some big gloves behind and bury them,” he told football insiders.
“They’re looking at Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. He clearly knows Arsenal is very interested and Newcastle is also interested.
“He has a £21 million release clause on the deal. We know how strong the villa is in the Spanish market because of Unai Emery’s connection with Monchi.”
Joan Garcia and Arsenal and Newcastle Keene
Similarly, Arsenal requires David Raya to have a high quality backup option. Neto leaves the club when his loan deal expires. Garcia can compete with Raya at Arsenal’s starting spot, and as more competition for locations increases, Arsenal will help improve as a team.
As far as Newcastle is concerned, they need a quality long-term alternative to Nick Pope. The Spaniard has been one of Laliga’s best goalkeepers this season and has the ability to play for the biggest club in the Premier League. It’s not yet known where he’ll end.
The reported asking price is very reasonable for his quality and potential players. Garcia could prove to be a major bargain for all three clubs.
