UFC champion Tom Aspinall has been making fun of some big news, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll have to wait long.

England’s Aspinel is the current UFC interim heavyweight champion. He won the belt in late 2023 with an impressive knockout from Sergei Spibach, and defended Curtis Braides for the first time last summer.
It was an interesting and frustrating ruler for aspinel. Interim champions should only be crowned if the indisputable champion is usually on the sidelines for a long time due to injuries. They also rarely defend the belt, and usually quickly consolidate the title by fighting the incontroversial champions.
However, John Jones has held the indisputable heavyweight belt during Aspinel’s interim reign, actually fighting someone else in the same time frame, defeating Stipe Myosic late last year.
It’s a pretty ridiculous situation as Jones should have been fighting Aspinel years ago, but the UFC couldn’t put together the fight. Mainly because Jones simply doesn’t seem interested.
It is still unclear whether Jones agrees to fight Aspinel or whether the UFC will book a Britt against someone else (in which case Jones will surely have to peel off).
However, it appears that this week finally gives us some clarity.
On Monday, Aspinall went to Instagram and teased Fight News on May 28th. This is Wednesday.
“Heavyweight news. It’s coming soon,” Aspinel wrote in the caption. The video for his post included this Wednesday date of 28.05.25.
Aspinall then shared a little more info in a reply to his post.
“Sorry, I’m fighting for a new belt,” he joked. “Temporary BMF UFC heavyweight title. Live my best life.”
“The UFC announces my fight, not me,” he added in another comment.
Do you think this week Tom Aspinall will finally learn who is fighting the next day?
