Brazilian attacker Antony has opened up a struggle at Manchester United, suggesting that his future could move away from Old Trafford in his latest comments.
The 25-year-old joined Manchester United for a fee of around €95 million, and naturally pressured him to play immediately. He failed to live up to his expectations at Old Trafford, with the player managing just 12 goals in 96 appearances.
Antony has been heavily criticized for his time at Manchester United, and players have revealed how it had an impact on his personal life. The 25-year-old claims he lost his love for football, and he was desperate for change.
Antony avoided leaving
“I didn’t feel the desire to play football. I always loved playing football so I had to find myself and make myself happy. I had a very difficult time at United and couldn’t find that joy. I couldn’t hold it a little more. I asked for everything to change.
The player took part in La Liga’s outfit Real Betis during the January transfer period, but since then he has been outstanding for them. He scored nine goals and five assists for his name in 25 games. South America believes he is happy now, and he has rediscovered his joy in football.
“All I wanted was to stay home, not even have the strength to play with my son. I spent days eating and not locking myself in the room. It was very difficult, but thank God.
Man United Return seems unlikely for Antony
His comments certainly suggest that his return to Manchester United is not on his wish list. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decided to sell him in the summer. He’s not a critical part of the plan ahead and it would make sense for them to cash out the players.
The 25-year-old needs to join a club where he can enjoy playing football and play regularly. There were rumours that the real Betis could try to sign him forever. It is still unknown how the situation will unfold.
