Macy Barber is not impressed with Erin Blanchfield’s attempted garbage lecture. She doesn’t really like fighting style either.
Following a year-long break, Barber will return to the Octagon this Saturday night (May 31) for a flyweight headliner with Blanchefield at UFC Vegas 107.
Sitting on a six-game winning streak, Barber is no stranger to the blazing garbage story before her scraps, but “The Future” was characteristically quiet on her long-awaited return.
At the very least, she decided to question Barber’s credibility after retreating from a planned battle between the two in 2021 until Blanchefield decided to fire a shot at the flyweight enemy.
“Yeah, a little worried,” Blanchefield told MMA Fighting. “Because Macy is someone who gets out of the fight quite often. She has that history. There’s always concern, but it can happen to everyone at the same time.
“Many of the other top flyweights were already booked because they were booked (at UFC 315). I think that makes sense. So far, she’s still in the fight, so hopefully it’s just as it is.”
Macy Barber asks Erin Blanchfield’s “silly” comment
Barber quickly returned to Brunchfield, appearing on the Ariel Helwani Show, aiming for the “bad fighting style” of New Jersey.
“I think (her comment) was stupid,” Barber said. “It doesn’t make sense to say I’m going to pull out when I have history of getting out of the fight. I’ve both been pulled out of two total fights for serious reasons. For the first time, I tore my ankles in five places.
“I think she’s just trying to find something negative about me because she can’t criticise my fighting style or my marketability. The only thing she can say is that I might not show up. Her fighting style is terrible.
As Blanchefield and Barber keep things in check as fourth and fifth-place candidates in the flyweight division, scraps within the Apex on Saturday could produce the next title challenger to rule the 125-pound Queen Valentina Shevchenko.
