Those selling a £70 million ace are the biggest error of 2017

Manchester United have turned more corners than Formula 1 drivers over the past decade or so, followed by seemingly positive steps, followed by heavy falls in the later days of Alex Ferguson.

Only last year, the Red Devils were running high after seeing rival Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Less than six months later, the fire Dutchman was belatedly shown the door.

Even under the reign of the new Reuben Amorim, high points such as statement performances at Etihad and Anfield failed to inspire a consistent form of form in which the Portuguese debut campaign ends with the sour notes that are deserved in the final defeat of the Europa League last week.

That limp show has a real impact on the windows for the upcoming summer, and while Amorim admits that he is likely already working with smaller teams due to a lack of European football, the incoming calls could also be premium.

In fact, there remains a suggestion that Old Trafford’s side should sell before purchasing. Exits such as Antony, Jadon Sancho and Excited Marcus Rashford will be prioritized by Amorim and Ineos.

Their infuriation of the team has not only impacted “Deadwood,” but a few key figures also face an uncertain future. In particular, one transaction can evoke past echoes.

Prior to that, Ferguson could be questioned about Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez allowing them to leave in the summer of 2009. However, Ronaldo was hellish to join Real Madrid, earning at least a world record fee. As for Tevez, Argentina had a “fallen tool” under “Fergie” in the view of his teammate Gary Neville.

The Scots himself pointed out the sale of Jaap Stam in 2001 as “his biggest mistake,” but the decision to let go of another centre-back, ranked perhaps his biggest mistake – Gerald Pique. Is that about to be repeated?

Why did the man sell Gerald Piquet?

Almost 17 years ago, four years later in England, along with Lariga costume and new boss Pep Guardiola, it was only £5 million for his services that allowed the young Pique to return to the Boyad Club in Barcelona.

Selling Garnacho is Man Utd’s biggest mistake in 17 years

There is definitely a similarity between Piquet and Young Garnacho, with Wing Wizard also being pulled out as a teenager from Spain in the summer of 2020 after signing from Atletico Madrid for just £420,000.

Like Piquet, Argentina could be set up as a quick exit at such a young age, with the 20-year-old following in the footsteps of a centre-back who was 21 when he left Manchester 17 years ago.

The proposal is that Garnacho, who was ruled out after a victory over United’s Aston Villa on the final day of the season, was told by Amorim that he could leave this summer, starting on the bench in Bilbao’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The winger, who costs £50,000 per week, publicly outlined his disappointment with the decision following a 1-0 loss, despite Amorim referring to the “big opportunity” the players missed in their second leg of the semi-final victory over the athletic club.

And despite having scored 21 goals and assists this season, he finished behind only Bruno Fernandez in that respect, the rising star is lined up at the exit, which was previously eligible for a bid from Napoli in January.

Fernandez himself has been promoted for his own resignation, in interest from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, but it has not yet been seen whether Amorim and Ineos will approve the sale.

Similarly, since the talisman skipper is set to turn 31 in September, it can be argued that after five years of epic service, his best days may be behind him. In contrast, for Garnacho, he is likely ahead of him at his peak.

Thankfully, unlike Piquet, United actually got cash from the Spanish-born starlet and could rake for a fair price if price tags were listed between 600-70 million pounds. That said, isn’t this an all-powerful mistake, even among the benefits of meeting PSR regulations?

Yes, you may be questioning his suitability for Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, but that should not define his future. Similarly, concerns about his attitude have been fed up since the early days of Ten Hag, but that is probably more predictable than players still learning about his trade.

Of course, you need to tear this team and start again, but if you’re going to create a list of players you need to sell, Garnacho should not be near the front of the queue…
