Jones vs. Aspinel’s interest is “bombing.”
In an interview with Mike Bohn of Mmajunkie, Chael Sonnen said that interest in the potential matchup between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall has declined significantly.
“I love the business side of sports,” Sonnen said. “I’m fascinated by it. I’ve never witnessed it personally. There was a big fight we wanted and we had to wait. They had to negotiate or renegotiate. But 100% of them wanted more of those fights. I put John Jones and Tom Aspinel in the thumbnail, I bombed.
“People don’t care about this fight. I have a different guess. I assume the audience doesn’t want to go behind what they can get. I think that’s part of it. But this fight, unlike the other fights, it’s not small, so it’s less. I know if you can flip it over.
Aspinall says he simply wants to fight again, whether against “bone” or not. Aspinall’s own father expressed his frustration, believing that his son’s prime minister was in vain. The interim champion recently teased “heavyweight news” on social media, but he revealed that the announcement of his next fight will be made by the UFC, not him.
