Lando Norris rejected the suggestion that the 2025 F1 title fight was a two-horse race between him and McLaren’s teammate Oscar Piastri, and labeled the idea as “a bit ridiculous.”
Norris claimed that it was too early to count Max Verstappen and Ferrari, despite being just three points behind his teammate Piastri.
Verstappen is the only non-Mclaren driver to win a race in F1 2025.
Verstappen dodged Suzuka’s faster McLaren to get on top.
However, Verstappen surpassed Norris and Piastri in Imola, earning his second victory of the year.
With much of the season still not progressing, Norris dismissed, claiming it was a battle between himself and Piastri.
“It’s a great feeling to be at the forefront of the championship and score more points than anyone else, but it doesn’t change what I’m seeing or what I’m trying to change, what I work or try to achieve,” Norris said at a FIA press conference in Barcelona.
“I’m trying to win this weekend, win in Montreal, win in Austria. That has nothing to do with the position I’m in. And mathematically, there’s still an entire grid that can probably win the championship in that moment.
“If you think it’s outside of me and Oscars, you’re a bit ridiculous. There are a lot of opportunities. Max can still win. I think it’s a Ferrari. I think they’re Ferrari. I think they’ll get better all season.
“He won the race, he beat us at Imola Fair and Square.
A crucial moment in the F1 title race
The Spanish Grand Prix shows an important point in this year’s Formula One title race.
The FIA tightens the flexible front wing with new technical directives.
Norris dismissed concerns about cutting McLaren’s season, but Carlos Size feels the team could lose 0.1 seconds at most.
With just 25 points while at the top of the rankings between Piastri, Norris and Verstappen, slight changes in performance can have a major impact on the race for the driver’s title.
