PARIS – France’s Seed Arthur Phils withdrew from the French Open on Friday due to an unspecified injury.

FILS, 14th seeded, was to play 17th-ranked Andrey Rublev on Saturday in the third round.

Phil spoke about feeling back pain in his second round victory against Spain’s Jam Munar on Thursday.

“I have some issues with my back, but that’s what I’m used to (it) because I’m young,” the 20-year-old said after the match. “And again, convulsions. Everything was a little bit. The mix wasn’t very good.”

When asked if he was suitable to face Lubrev, Phil said, “I hope so.”

Phil came out and there were no French left in the draw from Roland Garos.
