If you’re comparing UFC heavyweight champions Tom Aspinall and Michael Chandler… Think again.
England’s Aspinel claimed the UFC’s interim heavyweight title in 2023 with a quick knockout of Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich. He then once defended that interim title with Curtis Braides’ faster KO.
The only reason Aspinall is fighting for the interim belt is that indisputable champion Jon Jones was focused on fighting the ghosts of Stipe Miocic. Jones (in the hot water again) won that fight with TKO in the third round. Unfortunately, the Americans have rocked the matchup in every way since defeating Miocic.
The way Aspinall sat around waiting for Jones led some fans to compare him to former Bellator Lightweight champion Michael Chandler. Chandler, who has closed in 40 years, has wasted some of the best years of his career in the infamous years, waiting for Conor McGregor, who is clearly less interested in combat than Jones.

Aspinall is not a fan of these comparisons. To be fair, his complaints are valid. After all, he defended the belt against Braides a year ago.
“I’ve seen a lot of people comparing me to Michael Chandler,” Aspinall told ESPN MMA. “I’ve been waiting for (Chandler) Conor McGregor for a long time.
“I’m not waiting for one fight, I’m not trying to fight one guy,” the UFC heavyweight champion added. “I’m trying to fight everyone. And I’m trying to become a heavyweight guy that takes everyone out. It doesn’t matter who it is, Ciryl Gane, Volkov Rematch, Almeida, Derrick Lewis, Brock Lesnar.
Aspinel was talking all about it and I thought he was waiting for Jones, Think again – Also.
“Don’t talk about John Jones anymore,” he said. “I’m an active guy. I’m going to fight someone. That’s going to be announced soon.”
At this point, it is still unknown who Tom Aspinall will fight next. However, it is clear that John Jones is not interested in fighting. We cannot praise him and wait for a fight unless he coordinates one of the most complicated troll tasks of all time.
