Journalism And sovereignty, which won the first two gems of the Triple Crown, became the top two choices on the morning line when he was drawn into the field of the eight-year-old Colts on Monday afternoon. Belmont Stakes 2025 In Saratoga.
Journalism, which portrayed the post 7, has become a favorite of the 8-5 program by David Aragona, a handycaper for the New York Racing Association. Sovereignty earned post-2 and 2-1 odds.
Journalism and jockey Umberto Rispoli squeezed between two horses on the way to a half-length victory at Preakness 2025 on Pimlico’s third pole on May 17th. Stables 5 and Coolmore Trio by Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.
“There’s a bit of speed inside us when we look like it’s drawn here. …We come across the first turn, always triple crown race, very honest pace,” McCarthy said. “I think we’ll be positioned forward.”
Journalism is the only horse to run in all three triple crown races this year. On Saturday, he will start his eighth start to his October debut.
“He’s been the same horse since last summer’s July,” McCarthy said. “He does everything you ask a good horse. Eat well, train well, act well. I thought his energy was the same here. Obviously, the Saratoga we know is very good for horses.
Sovereignty is once again riding Junior Alvarado. He piloted Godolphin, born in Missievkolt in a 1/2-long victory over journalism at the Kentucky Derby 2025 on May 3rd. This was trainer Bill Mott’s second Derby victory.
“I thought I was a small field, eight horses. I was happy with the position we got in the post, and I don’t think that’s a big deal for him,” Mott said of his colt, displaying closing style. “He’s moving well over the truck and eating the bottom of the feed tub. He carries his weight well, so I hope he’s doing as good as Saturday (Monday).”
Baeza (4-1), who finished third in the Kentucky Derby with trainer John Silef, returned to the Irons from the sixth post to Belmont with Flavien Platt.
Shirev says he is happy to return to Saratoga, where he says that the horse is usually happy.
“It’s the first time they’ve come out into the tree and get that distant look,” he said. “There’s always something different here. You can go to Oklahoma (the training track), you can go to the main track, you can walk behind and on the grass.
Front Running Wood Memorial (G2) winner Rodriguez (6-1) had a foot problem that kept him out of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, but Bob Baffert would be plagued by Mike Smith as he got on from the post three.
“I think that’s a good post,” said Jack Wolf of Starlight Racing, one of the owners of Rodriguez, a partnership led by SF Racing. “It really doesn’t matter if you don’t think they’re going to start with this particular race.”
Wolf said he received positive reports about Rodriguez since returning to Tonja Terranova’s truck, which supports Baffert this week.
“Bob and Tonja (I have them) have put out horses for a few days. They all say he’s doing well and he’s got a leg injury,” Wolf said. “I know he maintains a pretty good company before this race. He’s against journalism and Baeza, and Mike Smith is not a bad rider.”
Hill Road (10-1), who won Peter Pan (G3) for trainer Chad Brown last month, has been riding Irado Ortiz Jr. from the railroad post since Platt committed to Baeza.
Todd Plecher, a four-time trainer who won Belmont, has two new shooters from the Triple Crown series. Crudo (15-1) leads from Gate to Wire to win Sir Barton in The Preakness Undercard, draws post 5 and rides as usual by John Velázquez. Uncaged (30-1), the winner of the allowance, finishing sixth in Peter Pan, painted four posts and won the Belmont Jockey Louis Saes for the first time.
Preakness’s fifth Eurasia-based Heart of Honor (30-1) is riding Saffie Osborne, daughter of trainer Jamie Osborne. Honor AP Colt got an outside draw.
The 1 1/4 mile Belmont Stakes has been reduced from 1 1/2 mile and has been implanted into upstate New York for the second year in a row while Belmont Park is being rebuilt. Posting times are scheduled for Saturday at 7:04pm EDT. Fox will air the race live.
