One former NBA veteran wants to be a head coaching job for the New York Knicks despite seeing Tom Thibodeau’s shocking shooting.
The New York Knicks played in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, and only won two wins as they ended up in a 4-2 defeat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Obviously, many people wondered who would be responsible for the ECF elimination at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. Well, it turns out to be nothing more than head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Coach Tibbs was fired by the Knicks following a five-year stint, but former NBA player Metta World Peace (Ron Artest) took the opportunity to assert himself as the team’s next coach.
A 17-year NBA veteran, World Peace certainly has extensive experience playing in the league. In addition to that, he spent six seasons under the wings of the late NBA Great Kobe Bryant.
There’s no denying the fact that he learned one or two while helping the LA Lakers win the 2010 NBA Championship. But why not see why Artest thinks he will be the perfect guy to lead the Knicks?
“Metta is the perfect choice for a New York Knicks head coach. Since 1999, this was supposed to happen.
“When I left NYC because it was tough for all the top players, I went to St. John’s basketball and I wanted to be drafted by the Knicks.
“I’m built to challenge the city. I’m the number one guy for the job. And I have 360-degree experience,” he added.
The Artest announcement was heard when former Lakers star and teammate Dwight Howard assured him through X.
“Metta voted for the Knicks coach,” Howard tweeted.
Artest may have worn many hats, but once he lands the Knicks job, it becomes his first shot in coaching for the NBA basketball team. He previously had a short stint as a player development coach for the South Bay Lakers in the G League.
Despite knowing that, he decided to list the points that prove why he was ready to accept this new role.
“I want everything about New York smoke. I’m 100% ready to head coach the Great New York Knicks,” he tweeted.
However, to prove his worth, he listed all the major achievements of his career:
- Queens bred.
- He dominated my high school days.
- It was three championships at lacquer and we didn’t lose one at lacquer.
- Three championships at the real Gershwin when there was no security.
- There are so many more on the front line in NYC.
- The 1999 draft included Knicks practice shirts and shorts.
“NBA admiration speaks for itself. I basically locked up a lot of Hall of Famers. Sorry, but Lightworks. Metta is ready for the city,” the 2010 NBA champion concluded.
It’s an impressive resume, but you still need a different pedigree to be an NBA coach. Even the best coaches spend years as assistants before landing a title as big as the Knicks head coach.
