This “best xi” recognizes people who delivered both at home and away -ca
To select players, Cricket Australia relied not only on statistics but also on how the players performed in a variety of conditions.
“This ‘Best XI’ recognizes people who delivered both home and away over a two-year period, rewarding players with consistency rather than top run scorers or ticket gaters,” Cricket Australia said.
As a result, several notable names, such as Ben Duckett, Mitchell Stark and Nathan Lyon, failed to make the cut.
Cricket Australia’s WTC 2023-25 Best XI:
Two Indian players have been named at WTC 2023-25 Best XI. Opening batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Pacer Jasprit Bumrah are included in the team. The star-studded lineup includes three Australian players, two from New Zealand, two from England and one from Pakistan and Sri Lanka. South Africa’s Kagisorabada was chosen as the 12th man.
Jaiswal performed 19 tests in his third WTC cycle, scoring 1798 runs, including 4th century and 10 half-century. He hit a back-to-back double century against England at home last year, and also scored a sublime 161 in Perth with Australia.
Meanwhile, Bumra picked up 77 wickets in 15 Tests, including five of five wickets. He scored a record 71 wickets in 2024. This is the most fast captain in a calendar year since Dale Stein won 74 wickets in 2008.
Australia’s Pat Cummins has been named captain of the team. Along with Cummins, Australia’s Usman Kawaja and Alex Carrey have also been selected by the team. From New Zealand, Kane Williamson and Matt Henry make the cuts, while Joe Root and Harry Brook represent the UK in the WTC Best XI for the ongoing cycle. Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka and Noman Ali of Pakistan were also cut.
