Iyer, who was captain of the 2024 IPL champion KKR, was greeted by Punjab at the IPL 2025 auction and was sure he would become the captain of the side next season.
The kings of Punjab also hang ropes Ricky Pointingwho worked as a coach for the Delhi Capitals until last season and had a lovely sense of camaraderie with Shreyas Iyer as the duo led DC to their first IPL Finals in 2020.
The pair decided to use the young Indian batting lineup in the form of Prabhshimran Singh, Priyansh Aliya, Nehar Wadara and Shashank Singh.
The risk of these young batters getting into the inexperienced batting lineup paid off as Prabhsimran Singh took responsibility for bringing home the team led by the top of the order.
Prabhsimrah scored over 450 runs and provided a solid platform for incoming batsmen to capitalize. Priyansh Aryahe also played innings that won the match on certain occasions.
One of Priyansh’s innings included 100 in difficult situations against CSK as the wicket continued to fall from one end. However, Priyansh did not crub his offensive stroke play and won the match-winning century.
Apart from the openers, it was Nehar and Shashank who helped them rescue teams from trouble in various games and post challenging totals on the board.
