This weekend’s return at UFC Atlanta, former welterweight champion Kamal Usman has staked claims of surprising conflict with the advantages of future Islamic Makhachev.
This weekend, at his slower and more pound number one, Kamal Usman will take on Joaquin Buckley, who will surge when he returns to action for the first time since his defeat to Hamza Chimaev in 2023.
As for Makhachev, the former lightweight champion is expected to make a welterweight move on his food stall later this year, and is competing for money from Go-Go when he challenges the newly aged Jack Della Madarena.
And at the end of this month of International Combat Week, Makachev sees him as a former featherweight kingpin, seeing him at UFC 317.
However, recently linked to a superfight with the number one pound for pound, Makachev’s co-manager Ali Abderaziz’s Makachev reflects Usman’s willingness to secure a fight with the Russians. Insisting on a showdown would be a “smash hit” pairing before he retires from combat sports.
Kamal Usman Ice Islam Makhachev Superfight
“Islam (Makachev) has the ability to do that, but that’s not easy,” Kamal Usman told Kevin Ele in a recent interview. “Front forward, the current pound and the current pound of the previous pound and the pound of pounds, I think it’s a huge hit.
McChev, who was expected to immediately fight Della Madalena with a welterweight bow, was competing for the play by the end of the year by the Perth native himself.
“I think it’s (the fight) in the US, probably October/November.” A smirk Podcast. “They (UFC) were meant to have a Mexican PPV, but I think that’s all changed. Now it’s early October in Vegas.”
