“Fred is the main reason I’m here” – Lewis Hamilton blows up rumors of “nonsense”

Lewis Hamilton fought back against rumours of “nonsense” about the future of Ferrari F1 team principal Fred Vasser.

Speculation about Vasuzer’s position as the team’s boss is swirling amid Ferrari’s challenging start to the 2025 season.

Reports in Italian media say Ferrari is considering rejecting Basser if the outcome doesn’t improve in future races, but claims that seven-time world champion Hamilton is throwing support behind the Frenchman.

Hamilton said his presence with the Vasseur team was the main reason he joined Ferrari and the main reason he previously cooperated between his F3 and GP2 title victory on his way to F1.

“It’s definitely not good to hear that there’s such a story,” Hamilton said at Thursday’s FIA press conference in Montreal ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.

“First of all, I love working with Fred. Fred is the main reason I’m on this team and I got the opportunity to be here where I’m forever grateful. We’re together.

“We work hard in the background. Things aren’t perfect, but for me, I’m here to work with the team and Fred. I want Fred here. I think Fred is the guy who brings us to the top.

“In the end, what people write is nonsense. Most people don’t know what’s going on in the background. It’s not all easy. It’s not the smoothest sailing in the background.

“We have to make changes and there’s a lot to do. Of course there’s a lot of pressure because we want to win, but that’s not part of the discussion at this point.”

Vasser has “full support” for Hamilton

Hamilton emphasized that he would not support a Ferrari, replacing Vassuer.

Asked how stupid it is for Ferrari to make a difference, Hamilton replied.

“When embedding new people, new personnel, drivers or engineers, people running the organization, it takes time to coordinate and has a significant impact.

“That’s not part of the discussion. I’m here to win with Fred. He has full support for me.”

Ferrari denied reports that Vasseur could be replaced with crash.net.
