The Dallas Mavericks may have denied the opportunity to interview Jason Kidd with the New York Knicks, but the head coach has an ace on his sleeve.
The New York Knicks apparently hit obstacles on the hunt for their next head coach. After the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau, they quickly turned to the coaching market.
One name that has been constantly mentioned since then is Jason Kidd. The Knicks apparently had been dead set to Landing Kid as their next head coach.
But among other teams, they were treated to reality checks yesterday as the Mavericks refused to make the Knicks progress.
The clock is engraved on the Knicks head coach hunt. However, a new report suggests that they may not need to give up on Jason Kidd.
A report by Stephen Bondy of the New York Post shows that Jason Kidd to the New York Knicks is still possible.
Bondy reports that Kidd wants a new deal from the Dallas Mavericks. If the Mavericks declined this request and the Knicks offered him what they wanted, Kidd could force his way out of Dallas.
“A source says Kid is fishing for a contract extension from the Mavericks. Even if he doesn’t get one and signs a five-year deal, Kid can be very uncomfortable for the Mavericks.
“The interest between the Knicks and Kid is mutually known to each source, with James Dolan and Branson being fans.”
This bomb could be the news the Knicks front office was waiting for. If Leon Rose and James Dolan are interested, the Mavericks have not yet left the forest of the Coaching Front.
If Jason Kidd decides to make things difficult for the front office, Nico Harrison can decide to avoid a headache and let him walk.
The Mavericks have the option to trade Jason Kidd for the Knicks. This is the route that Brian Windhorst had suggested that he had done well in the past.
The Mavericks drafted the Cooper Flag with the first overall pick and will have a significant offseason, with the exception of changes. The team has already held interviews with rookie sensations.
Flagg development is extremely important. And the Mavericks can’t afford yet another sideshow with their coach after the months of turmoil they experienced after the Luka Donsic trade.
The Mavericks rely on Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving to coach Cooper Flag. But as Jason Kidd destabilizes the hierarchy, his guidance may fall into deaf ears.
