After stroked Jon Jones’ ego for over a year, UFC CEO Dana White appears to be supporting herself and the entire heavyweight division for the corner.
In November 2023, Tom Aspinall won the UFC interim heavyweight title with a 69-second KO at Sergei Pavlovich. Since then, Jones has been completely healed and competed at the end of last year. Still, we are less than we’re closer to seeing Jones and Aspinel unify the title than we were 19 months ago.
Much of that responsibility rests on Jones. Jones regularly flip-flops about whether he sticks to long enough to fight aspinel or retires from the sport entirely. “Bones” is busy taking on coaching gigs with the ultimate fighter Russian imitation and touring Thailand with Nate Diaz.
UFC fans launch a useless campaign to strip John Jones
After a recent report, Jones claimed he had accepted a massive payday for the fight, and then, ultimately, to retreat, fans finally tire of the drama and launched a petition that “Bones” strips the heavyweight crown.
As it stands, the petition sits with over 193,000 signatures.
Unfortunately, fan demand is rarely for Dana White to snatch Jones’ title.
“Go ahead and let John do what he wants,” former UFC fighter Josh Thomson said on the weight of his podcast with “big” John McCarthy. “John doesn’t need another title to fight. It doesn’t mean anything anymore… no one cares. He has a belt. He calls. Dana stroked his ego so stroked.
“You need to wait for him. If you say all of them, you need to wait the top time to decide what he wants to do. You can’t strip him up.”
