Leicester City is reportedly exploring the moves of Fotis Aonnidis, with the Greek striker appearing as the successor to Jamie Vardy.
According to a report by Corriere Dello Sport, via sports witnesses, Leicester City is one of several English clubs that took the first approach ahead of the Panathinaikos.
Leicester joins Crystal Palace in the race, and Southampton, a fresh addition to his FA Cup victory.
All three clubs are said to be closely monitoring Ioannidis and have begun contacting them regarding the possibility of summer moves.
Leicester City is looking for a new striker this summer
Ioannidis has enjoyed a massive rise since joining Levadiakos’ Panathinaikos in 2020. The 25-year-old has made 185 appearances and scored 51 goals in all competitions.
Last season, the attacker scored 11 goals in 42 appearances in all Greek competitions.
Among his European suitors, Fiorentina appears particularly enthusiastic. The Serie A side has been in regular contact with the player’s agents in recent weeks, reportedly taking Ioannidis to Florence before.
The striker is said to be intrigued by the opportunity to play in Italy, but there was no deal.
The negotiations could be financially dependent, and representatives of Ioannidis have indicated that an offer of around 20 million euros is required to secure his services.
Fiorentina can offer competition with English clubs
Fiorentina has so far offered under 100 million euros and has not reached the Panathinaikos rating. The Greek club, which has three years left on the current contract, holds a strong negotiating position.
With Jamie Vardy’s legendary tenure concluded, Foxes is actively looking for a fresh leader who will attack her trusty presence in advance.
If they pursue Aeonnidis even further, they will need to act quickly to dodge both domestic and European competition for one of the Greek upstarts.
Patson Daka was also able to leave the club this summer, allowing him to sign a new striker at King Power Stadium.
