OAKMONT, Pa. — Canada’s Corey Connors withdrew from the US just before Sunday’s final round due to an injury to his right wrist.
Ranked 21st in the world, the Connors were scheduled to play against New Zealand’s Ryan Fox.
The Connors injured his right wrist on a bunker shot during the opening round on Thursday, exacerbating his injuries on Saturday. He got on the leaderboard with a 3-under 32 card to the front nine in the third round, but again injured his wrist while hitting a bunker shot on hole 11.
According to The Toronto Sun, the winners of the two PGA Tours were examined by doctors for about 15 minutes and chose to finish the round. Connors was over 5 years old on the back nine and posted 2 over 72.
“I didn’t think he would play the rest of the way,” partner Michael Kim told The Sun. “He played so well, so I feel bad for him.”
The Connors scored five top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 in their first 15 starts on the tour, including a tie that ranked eighth in the Masters. He is 9th in FedEx Cup Points rankings per season.
