Rand Norris took full responsibility and apologized to McLaren after a clash with his teammate Oscar Piastri at the F1 Canada Grand Prix.
Norris crashed from the Grand Prix on Sunday, with three laps remaining when he hit the back of Piastri’s car, trying to get fourth from his teammates.
Britton lost his front wing in a crash and was forced to retire on the spot, with Piastri taking fourth place and able to extend his lead in the Formula One Championship to 22 points over Norris.
Britton quickly raised his hand for the incident and told McLaren on team radio that the clash was “my bad” and “my stupidity.”
Norris felt repentant when he spoke on TV pen after Sunday’s race.
“I apologize to the whole team and the Oscar for trying something that is probably a bit ridiculous because I have no responsibility other than myself,” Norris told Sky Sports F1.
“I’m glad he didn’t ruin his race. I’ll end up apologizing to the team. This was even more ridiculous. It wasn’t like ‘a race’, it was ridiculous from my side. ”
When asked by Austria how to reset, Norris replied, “I’ll go to sleep tonight, apologize to everyone and then crack.”
Piastri admitted that the contact was “not ideal” for McLaren, but accepted Norris’ apology.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella described Norris’s move as a “misjudgment” and said the team would consider the incident.
Norris’ first DNF of the season hits his hopes of winning the Maiden F1 World Championship.
