The Octagon returned to Georgia for tonight’s UFC Atlanta event, with four fighters snatching home performance bonuses.
Tonight’s fight card was headlined by a highly anticipated welterweight match featuring Kamal Usman taking over Joaquin Buckley. The contest proved to be the dominant show from Usman’s former champion. Buckley was able to pack some takedowns and land some heavy shots in the final round, but it was too late for “New Mansa”. Kamal Usman dealt a lot of damage while working from the top position on the floor in the opening four rounds. 25 minutes later, it was clear that since 2021 he had done enough to get his first victory.
UFC Atlanta was co-headlined by a women’s flyweight contest between Rosenama Junas and Miranda Maverick. The match brought about a competitive match, but knockdowns in the third and final round sealed the victory of the former UFC champion in “Thug Rose.” With the victory, Namajunas is now set in another top contender battle on her next outing.
Following the end of tonight’s event, UFC officials announced at a postwar press conference that the four fighters would be filming performance bonuses.
Night Battle: Welterweight fighters Kamal Usman and Joaquin Buckley each pocket $50,000 each for the thrilling war at the main event of UFC Atlanta tonight. Usman ultimately won the contest by unanimous decision.
Night Performance: Malcolm Wellmaker won an additional $50,000 for his nasty second-round knockout victory over Kris Moutinho (see here).
Night Performance: Jose Ochoa pocketed an extra $50,000 for a second-round TKO victory over Cody Darden on tonight’s qualifying card (see here).
