Newcastle is in the market for new defenders, but they are now handed a boost to their efforts to sign one of the targets from Liverpool.

Newcastle has been linked to many central defenders over the past few weeks, with club officials hoping to sign a younger alternative to Fabian Shah. Crystal Palace captain Marc Guech is a major target, but if negotiations turn out to be as difficult as last summer, they may look elsewhere.

Newcastle has been trying to sign a young English talent in recent years, with both Tino Libramento and Lewis Hall arriving. And the latest player to move to St. James Park may be Jarrel Quansah, the former current teammate of the U21 European Championship.

As reported by Athletic (via Geordie Boot Boys), Liverpool is open to selling Quansah this summer, but they are not actively trying to move him. Newcastle is an alert as the Premier League champions value him over £40 million.

Quansah has linked to many clubs over the past few weeks, including Nottingham Forest. But Newcastle will be one of their favourites, given the expenditure they have, if they pursue a deal, especially considering that there should be less PSR concerns this summer.

Quansah is only 22 years old and has competed in Liverpool for 58 seniors over the past two years, and he has accumulated a good level of experience. Moving to a club like Newcastle would think his first team exposure would be ideal for his development.

For now, it is still unknown whether Newcastle will move. At this point, it is believed that they are still targeting Guehi.
