Is Mark Marquez really interested in winning Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP title Tally?

3 Min Read

If Mark Marquez wins the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, he will draw the level with the seven best class Tally and nine overall records from Valentino Rossi.

Valentino Rossi won a total of nine world championships between 1997 and 2009, seven of which appeared in the top class of MotoGP.

Only Giacomo Agostini has more of the best class titles than Rossi, achieved between 1966 and 1975, but Marc Marquez is only six away at six after scoring between 2013 and 2019.

Marquez currently leads the rankings by 32 points after a dominant weekend at the Aragon Grand Prix two weeks ago.

He remains fond of winning titles among his competitors. It will match him with the career totals of archrival Rossi.

When asked if he was thinking about matching and even surpassing the top, Marquez said his comeback from a serious injury will remain the biggest achievement of his career ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.

“Of course, as I say, I’m in great condition,” he began.

“I think we’ve raised the level a little bit between us and Alex (Marquez) because we both have pushed and Alex is in the best year of the championship.

“Pecco (Bagnaia) is getting closer and closer. As I said before the two races, Pecco is closer than the numbers say.

“But apart from that, nine championships have arrived and not for me. The biggest challenge of my career that I have already achieved has come back from a very deep moment.

“I have already achieved this. Three years ago (in Mugero) I had announced that I would go to America and put my arm straight again.

“So I have already achieved the biggest challenge: Everyone has a career, everyone has an injury, their riding style, their characters.

“But I am happy with the challenge and I am just having fun right now.

“Of course, as a Ducati rider, I feel pressured and try to win the championship, but this isn’t a problem at times.

Marquez will come to Muguero this weekend, chasing his first victory at an Italian venue since 2014.

Marquez, home to teammate Pecco Bagnaia for the past three years, says he will use this year’s data to help Italians understand where they are on the track.

“I’m trying to understand this year,” he said.

“Last year I had the opportunity to compare his data a little, but the bike was a little different and then (it was more difficult to replicate).

“This year we’re going to try to understand even more. I’m trying to benefit from his data as well as from Alex.
