WUHAN, China — Coco Gauff of the Wuhan Open defeated Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 in 4 consecutive video games to win the U.S. ultimate on Sunday.
Gauff, 21, received the clay-court French Open, her second title of the 12 months and 11 in her profession.
Gauff, in third place, served to avoid wasting the set at 5-3. She held on to interrupt Pegula in sixth place and win 5-5.
Pegula’s forehand volley on the internet missed extensive, giving Gauff her first match level, and Pegula sealed the match with a forehand winner after a brief rally on her second serve.
Pegula, 31, was motivated to defeat top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka within the semifinals. However this time she misplaced momentum and missed out on her tenth profession title as Gauff grew to become the second American to win the Wuhan title after Venus Williams in 2015.
It was the seventh match of their careers, and the primary time that they had reached the finals. Pegula holds a 4-3 lead over Gauff and has received a number of WTA doubles titles together with her.
Gauff improved her report to 11 wins and three losses within the ultimate. Pegula fell to Sept. 11.
