Why is UFC Vet Kevin Lee suing GFL?
Lee was one of the dozens of MMAs who signed the GFL. He joined stars such as Tyron Woodley, Paige Van Zant, Junior Dos Santos, Sage Northcutt and Fabricio Werdum. According to respected MMA reporter Alex Behnin, he was promised a six-figure amount and perhaps even a seven-man figure with a beginner’s promotion.
The GFL then collapsed completely with an amateur and shocking display of fraudulent business practices. That led to all the fighters who signed with the promotion scrambled to find new ways to make money.
Lee was lucky. He soon signed a contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and will likely take care of him by promotion despite his extremely tough debut matchup.
Despite landing on his feet, he intends to sue the GFL for many crimes. It includes honor and fear, he argues.
“For those last 12 months, we were talking pretty heavy with the GFL,” the UFC veteran told RJ Clifford. “They were supposed to be promotions for new startups. They were supposed to be the next big thing, so I’m pretty good behind them.
“The consultations were great, but there was no action behind it,” he added. “We are now experiencing legality so I can’t speak about too many situations.
“I sued them for some delinquent losses. They became a big face in the MMA promotional business with people like me. There was nothing since then.”
