The UK is in shock! Ben Stokes’ trustworthy teammate ruled out the first test against India

England speedster Gus Atkinson could be ruled out from his first Test match against India, which will begin in Leeds on June 20th. Atkinson is now retreating from the White Ball Series with the West Indies as he is battling a hamstring injury.

Atkinson was injured last month in three innings of the one-off Test, England vs Zimbabwe, bowling just three overs in two innings for Zimbabwe.

Gus Atkinson injured

English Pacer hopes to be suited to the Test Series against India, but he has struggled to get his fitness back, and now reports say Atkinson’s return may be delayed.

Atkinson was recently a key member of the UK bowling division, scoring 55 wickets in just 12 Test matches with an average of 22.3. This is the most wicket by any English bowler during this period.

The England team hopes that the pacers will fit perfectly before the 5 Test match series. Sam Cook, Matthew Potts and Josh Tan are potential replacements for Atkinson in the Test Series against India.

Fear of injuries in a British camp

Aside Atkinson, Mark Wood, Ollie Stone and Jofra Archer are battling injuries. Archer was named in the White Ball Series with the West Indies, but was pulled out just before the series due to a thumb injury, after which Luke Wood replaced him with the team.

Markwood is currently working with the ECB Medical team to recover. Speedsters miss the UK summer and target targets back at the end of July. In other words, Wood almost misses the entire test series against India.

England struggled to set up a strong paced attack in Test cricket after the retirement of long-time England cricketers James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

England Lions Squad Update

India A will hold their second unofficial Test match against the England Lions on June 6th. Veteran Chris Walkes could potentially return to the Lions side to offer a practice game ahead of the big Test series against India.

Previously, English test skipper Ben Stokes was also thought to be included in the England Lions squad, but now it’s unlikely that Stokes will join the team as England announces its team against India within the next week.

Both teams India and England will begin a new cycle of the 2025-27 World Test Championships in a 5 Test Match Series.
